Job Description
We’re hiring a hands-on Controller to manage the firm’s core accounting and financial operations. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys working directly in the numbers—processing payroll, managing accounts receivable and payable, reconciling accounts, and keeping the books accurate and current.
As a small planning and data management consulting firm, E. Holdings values accuracy, accountability, and practicality. The Controller will own day-to-day accounting functions, maintain compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements, and work closely with leadership and external CPAs to ensure smooth financial operations.
This is an active, execution-focused role—not supervisory-only. You will be directly involved in bookkeeping, payroll, reporting, and tax compliance activities.
What You’ll Do
Day-to-Day Accounting & Financial Operations
- Maintain accurate and complete books for multiple affiliated entities
- Work directly in Sage to manage the general ledger
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Record journal entries and ensure proper account classification
- Track income, expenses, and intercompany transactions
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records
Payroll, Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable
- Process payroll through Sage, including entries, payments, and filings
- Prepare and file payroll tax payments
- Manage accounts receivable: invoicing, payment application, and follow-up
- Manage accounts payable: vendor payments, expense coding, and reconciliation
- Reconcile payroll, AR, and AP activity to the general ledger
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local business and payroll tax filings
- Maintain PA and OH tax compliance, including local and municipal filings (PA EIT)
- Prepare and submit quarterly estimated tax payments
- Track deadlines with a tax compliance calendar
- Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies or tax notices
Month-End, Year-End & External Coordination
- Complete month-end close activities
- Prepare internal P&L and balance sheet reports
- Support year-end close and annual tax filings
- Coordinate with external CPAs and tax preparers
- Maintain well-organized financial and tax documentation
Reporting & Deliverables
- Monthly: Payroll processing, bank/credit card reconciliations, AR/AP reconciliation, general ledger review
- Quarterly: Estimated tax filings and payments, payroll tax filings, internal financial statements
- Annual: Year-end close, W-2 and 1099 preparation, support for business tax returns, audit-ready documentation
Qualifications
- 4–6 years of hands-on accounting or controllership experience
- Demonstrated experience with payroll, AR, and AP
- Strong knowledge of PA and OH tax requirements, including local/municipal filings
- Proficiency with Sage accounting and payroll systems
- Comfortable working independently in a small-office environment
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license
