Community Outreach, Public Awareness Campaign, and Minority/Woman/Disadvantage Coordination –The August Wilson Center is much more than a museum; it is a state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary venue that serves as a cultural resource–addressing a need that was sorely lacking in the City of Pittsburgh. The Center’s building is reflective of all aspects of African American culture and includes galleries, classrooms, a 500-seat theater, a gift shop, a cafe, and many multi-purpose spaces to be used for visual and performing art and expression, and which is available for rental and use by the community. In implementing the “Build a Part of History” campaign, we worked closely with the Center’s marketing department to develop an inclusive construction outreach program. Major components of the program included a series of outreach meetings located throughout the City of Pittsburgh; candidate sessions and referrals to Prime and Sub Contractors or relevant trade unions; and continuous monitoring and follow-up with candidates, contractors, and the trade unions. This project illustrates our success in understanding community outreach and planning.
